Director of Economic and Environmental Management - Dr John Walsh
John enrolled at National University of Ireland Galway where he completed a B.Comm degree (honours). John added to the B.Comm degree by obtaining a Masters degree in Environmental Economic Modelling (honours), where his dissertation thesis was to develop an economic model valuing the non-market benefits of Anaerobic Digestion(AD) to farmers. Following on from John’s M.Sc, he continued in the field of AD and completed a doctorate in the full valuation of all the benefits both market and non-market of AD to the UK farming sector. The PhD was an academic industry based PhD and John worked with US based Planet Found and UK partners Fre-Energy throughout his PhD doctorate. In addition to having specific industry experience John authored two academic papers accepted in peer reviewed journals on the benefits of AD to increased crop yield and pollution reduction. John also received the Bob O’Connor prize from the Agricultural Economic Society of Ireland in 2012. Through John’s knowledge of the construction sector as well growing up on a beef farm, John has a unique understanding of the logistics that farmers may face with the implementation of an AD unit to their farming practice. Combining this with John’s Economic and environmental knowledge of the AD industry makes finding the best uses for all the commodities produced during the AD process a very simple prospect as well as full and proper valuation that AD will bring to the community.
